Tanzanian Bongo Flava singer and songwriter Sharrif Said, aka Jay Melody, has opened up about his musical journey and how Diamond Platnumz allegedly played a role in slowing down his music career.

In an interview with host Massawe Japanni on Radio Jambo, Melody revealed that his music career took off about six years ago after releasing the hit song ‘Goroka.’

“In 2017, I released the song ‘Goroka,’ which gave me the most. It was a hit in Tanzania. In 2021, I released “Huba Hulu,” which even became a hit here in Kenya, but since we collaborated with Diamond Platnumz in 2024 for the song “Mapoz,” it’s like he stole my star, ni kweli Diamond aliniibia nyota, because since we released that song, my music has never been the same as before,” he said.
The ‘Sugar‘ singer admitted that he initially faced a big challenge in convincing people that he could sing.

“You can’t get someone to accept you well at first. Sometimes you can get rejected on the radio,” he said.
He also revealed that she faced rejection from some big artists when she was still a young artist.
“There are big artists you try to work with, but they don’t show interest. Sometimes you can put your verse on a song, and then it gets released because it hasn’t been heard yet. But now I can’t be rejected; I’m a big artist,” he started.
During the show, the 25-year-old singer opened up about his great love for Kenyan artists.
Melody said that he recognizes many Kenyan artists and admitted that he gets a lot of inspiration from them.
“I love a lot of people in Kenya. I get inspiration from Kenyan artists. I love Otile Brown, Jovial Mejja, and Masauti,” he said.
He said that Kenyan songs are played a lot in Tanzania, especially in Dar es Salaam.
He also hinted that she will collaborate with a Kenyan artist soon.
