Sanyu discusses not being involved in the campaign

Ugandan musician Cindy Sanyu has spoken out about her reasons for not campaigning like other artists in the country.

She was speaking in an interview where she said she has no intention of performing at rallies in the 2026 general election, even though the jobs pay well.

Cindy said she has fans across all political parties in Uganda, which include those who support the government, those who support the opposition, and those who do not support any party.

She feels that stepping into political arenas may offend some of her fans who have been with her for two decades in the music industry.

Her brand, she says, has taken a lot of time and investment and follows consistency, talent, and dedication.

The artist, who also serves as the president of the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA), also highlighted how politics affects one’s mindset, saying that attitudes change with position.

When asked if she would like to compete in a second music showdown with her rival Sheebah Karungi, Cindy said it would not be right to embarrass her fellow woman a second time.

Sheebah and Cindy had previously hosted a music showdown on September 15, 2023, at the Kololo Stadium.
